Well, I finally did it! After a couple years of thinking and dreaming about taking this leap to be a blogging mommy (and my wonderful husband encouraging me!), I finally did it. I am really excited to share and hopefully make a difference in some small way. To be able to encourage, build up, and bless those who read my posts… make you laugh, cry, or have a “light bulb” moment with some new perspective or insight on a certain topic. Or, to simply give you a good read on something, hopefully, interesting! 🙂
This was a pretty big step for me. I am incredibly introverted and am not one to really share personally. I have been looking at so many mommy blogs, or blogs in general, that are out there (wow! There are sure a lot!) and have felt so intimidated by them. The thoughts that raced through my head were ones of self doubt and criticism – thinking that I could never be good enough, funny or creative enough to even have people interested in what I have to say. Thoughts that I’ll be insignificant and just another mom writing about what everyone else is writing about, and not even that good at it. But I truly felt like God was nudging me to step out of my comfort zone anyway. I enjoy writing, though it has been forever since I have truly written much, and God has placed many topics on my heart to share… So here I am!
In all of this, this verse came to mind…. Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
God reminded me that He created me and called me “wonderfully made”. I am unique and ‘wonderful’ in my own way and I shouldn’t be afraid to be me. I also heard a quote somewhere in my researching about blogging that went something like this – “If you like and are interested in what you are blogging about, there are others out there who will as well.” So, I hope there are some of you out there that are interested and enjoy what I have to say! 😉
What’s in a name?…
As I started looking into all that went into blogging, another thing I struggled with was what to name it. Everything I was reading on blogging was saying that having a specific “niche” is key to having a successful blog. Since I had so many varying topics in mind that I wanted to share, naming it something that was going to target a specific niche wasn’t going to really work. As I thought and prayed about it, my daughter’s name kept coming to mind, as well as something to do with being a mommy/mama/mother. (My thinking on this was so many things I am interested in can all be kind of put under the category of being a wife/mother or can be related to by other wives/mothers or women in general who are interested in the same things I am!!) I looked into so many different combinations it was crazy. There are seriously SO many mommy blogs, blogs with grace in the name, etc… and they all looked really good! (Another incredible intimidating thing!) But when ‘Mommy of grace’ came to me and I looked it up, with no domain names taken, I was so excited!
I feel like God really had that name set aside just for me. Upon thinking of the word GRACE, and diving into the very meanings of it, I find the definitions very interesting… Grace: “Simple elegance or refinement of movement”, “courteous goodwill”, “a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine assistance”, “a virtue coming from God”, “unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification”, “approval or favor”, “disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency”, “a pleasing appearance or effect”, “a charming or attractive trait or characteristic”,“a sense of propriety”.
The very definition of the word grace resonates within me, and being a ‘Mommy of Grace’ really has 3 significant meanings for me…
1. First, I am a Mommy (like you didn’t already guess;P), and I adore motherhood! I have a beautiful daughter named Evelyn GRACE, who really is God’s gracious gift to me. Real briefly (as I intend to share more on this at a later date), she was born with a condition called Gastroschisis – a condition where her intestines, and other organs, were not inside her body. It was a very scary and difficult season for my husband and I as we went through the pregnancy. We found this out at 13wks and had to see doctors 2x a week until she arrived (at a helathy 36wks), and everytime there was the underlying thought that she could die, or other serious problems could occur due to this condition… but God’s GRACE was so evident through it all. He carried us through it all and she is our MIRACLE BABY, and doing so well now – 1 year later! We are truly thankful to God for bringing us through such a difficult season.
2. Secondly, I thinking upon who I am, a CHRISTIAN, save by the GRACE of my loving Heavenly Father.
Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”
Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.”
3. And thirdly, my true desire is to be a Proverbs 31 woman – a godly woman of GRACE, dignity, strength, integrity, courage, and wisdom.
2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
Proverbs 11:16 “A gracious woman gets honor, andviolent men get riches.”
Proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed in strength and dignity, she laughs without fear of the future.”
I am so grateful that God had this name set aside for me, and I am excited for you, dear reader, to walk with me as I learn more and more about becoming a mommy and woman of Grace, and as I explore the many possibilities of this new platform of sharing what God has laid on my heart to share with you!
Where we are going?…
Where God leads! In further posts, I plan to share more about who I am, as well as on various topics of interest. As stated on my home page, I am a very eclectic person. God has given me many various passions and talents.
I really enjoy Bible study and writing on various topics with a biblical basis (stay tuned for lots of these! I have TONS of topics running around in my head, waiting to hit my computer keys!), I love being crafty (knitting, scrap booking, furniture restoration, jewelry making, etc…), and anything ALL NATURAL (cloth diapers, natural oils, home remedies, organic whole foods, “made from scratch” cooking, and gluten and diary free baking, etc…). I am an entrepreneur and own several businesses (Photography business, dance school, Mary Kay business). I love traveling and have been to over dozen different countries, and my life long dream is to travel the whole world and go on as many adventures as possible! I am obsessed with life hacks! (I really have some fun posts coming about all my “life hacking” experimentation!! – Get ready for some laughs!) I love the topic of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood/child rearing and could wax eloquent for hours on these subjects! (Well, maybe not too eloquently, but I could talk for quite a while!:) I also really have a passion for women and the topic of being a woman of God, as well as the topic of Christian dating.
I would love to hear in the comments what you think would be an interesting topic to read about, or thoughts on what my next post should be on!! I am completely open to writing on anything there may be interest in, whether I have specific knowledge in it, or just a Christian view point on it.
